Wilsum and Veldman Brothers in charts

Both Wilsum & The Veldman Brothers are in the Lowlands top 25 (that's an album chart). The Veldman Brothers are on top of the list, for the second week in a row now, and Wilsum is number 3 in the list.
So; that's 2 albums I recorded & mixed in the top3. Not bad ;-)

Angie Stone & more...

Well, let me start by telling you about the accident I've had on the 1st of October. I was riding my bike, when a car hit me and launched me into the air. The flying part went pretty smooth, but I have to admit that the landing didn't go well. The lower-west side of my back has a pretty blue/grey colour now, and I have a continues headache!!! So I had to cancel all sessions for two weeks (maybe more?).
I would like to use this oppotunity to appologise to the people who's sessions got delayed: Sorry guys & girls!!

Latest news (releases/recordings/sessions):

Last time I updated this site I told you about Angie Stone: "wow, what do I need to say?! This woman's got SOUL!!! We recorded a special live show, and I've got to spend a few days in the studio to mix the wonderful live-material. She's a great performer, and she got an excellent band that can play really dynamic!" The show is gonne be released on DVD, so once I'm back on my feet again I will take care of some 5.1 stuff, and hen it's ready for release!

Novastar just released a new single called Rome. The second track on that CDS we recorded and mixed on the last Pinkpop festival.

Dresden Dolls. They gave a splendid concert in the Milkyway in Amsterdam. Together with Paul Schoenmakers I recorded/mixed their unique performance live for VPRO radio & 3voor12. You've got to check out this 2-piece band! (yep I consider them to be a band, not a duo.)

Two days later Paul and I went to the Milkyway again because EMI/Labels asked us to record and mix Interpol. We've had a blast, cause these guys rock and swing in their own special way. They got their own sound, which shines not only on their records but also live! Great show guys!

I also recorded and mixed a new PURE session with Dutch IDOL Boris for The Box. The show has been broadcasted, and BMG is also gonne release it on DVD. BMG is also gonne release a DVD of the HIND show I mixed just before my summer vacation.

For VPRO radio & 3voor12 we (Sjoerd vd Broek and I) recorded and mixed two raw underground bands: The Hunches and Archie Bronson Outfit. Both bands were spittin' their raw-and-high-energy-rock in the upper-hall of the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Tha Doggz. Well I just have to tell you about this great new band. It's a kick-ass band wich plays rock the way QOTSA, Foo Fighters and Velvet Revolver play it! We went into the studio to record a 5 track EP, and we sure had fun. The energy was there, the band was blasting; I think we nailed it: pure agressive in-your-face-rock! Surf to www.thadoggz.com and check out the "Studio Teasers"!

Monster Magnet (livemix for VPRO radio. These guys are finally back on track!)

Greendive (I'm co-producing their album wich will be released pretty soon, and I also mixed/produced two songs for that album. One of these can be found on the single Friday wich is out in stores now.)

Lowlands 2004 festival. 3 days on a beautifull festival; I do have a great job! I was working with engineer Frank Mathijssen at the Alpha Stage (=main) recording/mixing artists like Velvet Revolver (always nice to see rock-icons enjoying themselves.), dEUS (3 new songs!), N*E*R*D (big party), Soulwax (one of my favorite bands, but the've done better shows.), The Darkness (great rockshow!), Faithless (the 11th show I did from this excellent live-act), ThanX also to Per for all his hard work!). It was a Double2 production for MTV / Radio3fm / VPRO radio / 3voor12.nl.

PINKPOP 2004. The oldest festival of The Netherlands with a fine lineup. We recorded a lot of bands, these were my favorites: Muse / NERD / Novastar / Black Eyed Peas
Not all the things I am recording/mixing R gonne be on this News-section. Simply because I haven't got time enough to write it all down....

Big release

First, let me tell you about some releases I'm involved in:

1) LIVE released 3 versions of their CDsingle "Run Away", the red&blue editons both feature some songs wich Frank mathijssen and I mixed. The recordings were made in Belgium. (click here for my discography)

2) BRAINPOWER is gonna release a DVD pretty soon with the P.U.R.E. set on it. The PURE-set was recorded for The Box Music TV, but will also contain some songs wich were not broadcasted on TV. The mixing took place in DutchView Studio.

3) KREZIP also released a DVD with their P.U.R.E. set on it. And that their latest single (mine) was taken from those sessions (mixed by Hans Bunt and myself.) If you'll buy the DVD, you will also get a free audio-cd with these recordings!

4) BEEF has released a DVD with the P.U.R.E. set on it. Hans Bunt and I mixed that show originally for The Box Music TV.

5) One or two singles of Motown artist INDIA ARIE will contain a special bonus live-track wich Paul Schoenmakers & I mixed and recorded.

The last couple of weeks I've done (concert)-recordings/mixes of:

  • Blur (livemix for VPRO radio)

  • JIM (recorded & mixed for PURE @ The Box. They are considering a DVD release of these performances)

  • Spineshank (livemix for VPRO radio + multitrack recording for DVD)

  • Ill Nino (livemix for VPRO radio + multitrack recording for DVD)

  • Intwine (recorded & mixed for PURE @ The Box.)

  • Spiritualized (livemix for VPRO radio)

  • Dewi (recorded & mixed for The Box)

  • Greendive (I'm co-producing their album, and I also did some mixing)

  • Brainpower (recorded & mixed for PURE @ The Box. I also mixed some tracks wich will NOT be on TV, but will appear at the soon to be released DVD)

  • European Dance Event (we recorded quit a few dance-acts / dj's. Junkie XLwas the highlight.)

  • Raymzter (recorded & mixed for PURE @ The Box.)

  • Lowlands Festival (lots of bands... Highlight: FOO FIGHTERS!)

  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

    lot's

Damn... The last update I did on this NEWS section was months ago! Well what can I say?! SORRY! ... I was busy?! So, not all the things I am recording R gonne be on this News-section. Simply because I haven't got time enough to write it all down.... So just some bits and pieces of the highlights... ok?

A few weeks ago I went to the WISSELOORD STUDIOS (studio3) for a mix-session for the band ZOBER. The recordings I had to mix were made @ the Lowlands2002 festival, where they played the India stage for 35 minutes. The mixes turned out pretty OK... It's real 'real', so we did not 'fix' anything and we didn't do any overdubs: so what you'll hear is what was there (and nothing but the truth!). Luckily the crowd was very happening and so was the band... To sum it up: the mixes contain a lot of energy!

The last few weeks I've done concert-recordings of:
Death in Vegas (I was surprised by the atmosphere these guys could create, and the live skills combined with the electronica / 7,5)
Our Lady Peace (Yes, these guys ROCK! / 8)
Coldplay (wow! Amazing concert again. With over 40 channels, it was a hard days work. But when i listen back to these recordings, I hear a great band with a great audience in a ugly hall (Ahoy Stadium) / 8)
Lifehouse (This was a recording for their record-company and the whole thing was also being filmed by IISYOU MUSIC.  Lifehouse is a very young band, but they already play real phat & steady and they definitely know how to write a good song! / 8)
Relax + Di-Rect (both for a TV show called PURE, which is being broadcast on THE BOX / Relax=9, Di-Rect=6)
Suede (6th time we recorded them?! I lost track... One of their better concerts / 7)
Beth Orton (nice ambient / 7)
Counting Crows (This was probably the 5th time we recorded Counting Crows, and I think it was the second best concert. They were very good, but I still like the Vredenburg-recordings of a few years back better, because there was a lot of tension in the air that night. But like I said this time @ HMH Amsterdam was good. / 8)

Also there were quit a few festivals which need to be recorded for different radio & tv stations:
Lowlands (recording the ALPHA stage with bands like: Nickelback, 16Horsepower, Junkie XL, Within Temptation, Underworld)
ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event, several acts & DJ's)
Crossing Border (recording 2 days @ the Milkyway with bands like: J. Macis, Doves, Jeevas, Madrugada)
